Limb salvage by femoral profundaplasty A . V . POLLOCK

چکیده
One hundred and seven profundaplasties have been performed for rest pain or gangrene due to advanced arterial degeneration below the inguinal ligament. Local anaesthesia was used for 78 operations. There were 19 early failures (2 deaths and 17 amputations) and 16 later amputations. During 4'5 years of followup, 25 other patients have died. The results for diabetic gangrene were worse than for other indications.

متن کاملModular proximal femoral replacement in salvage hip surgery for non-neoplastic conditions.
Addressing severe proximal femoral bone loss in revision hip surgery is a challenging reconstructive problem. The use of modular proximal femoral megaprostheses is one of many available options to address this. This is a retrospective review of 15 patients who had undergone limb salvage at our institution using a modular proximal femoral replacement. There were 8 males and 7 females with a mean...
متن کاملLATE EMBOLECTOMY FOR LIMB OR KNEE SALVAGE IN ACUTE LOWER LIMB ISCHEMIA: A NEW PROTOCOL
Embolectomy has long been the gold standard for treating limbs acutely threatened by arterial occlusion. Delayed embolectomy has not been investigated adequately due to the belief that accompanying mortality and morbidity render the case futile. Following our previous experience with late arterial repair for leg or knee salvage I we applied the same principle to limbs threatened with prolo...
متن کاملSimultaneous reconstruction of the bone and vessels for complex femoral defect
BACKGROUND Several methods have been reported for intercalary reconstruction of femoral defects. Of these, free vascularized fibula grafts (FVFG) are preferred because of their durability, bone-healing potential, and tolerance to infection. If the bone tumor invades the femoral vessels, simultaneous vascular reconstruction also becomes necessary and significant technical hurdles make limb salva...
متن کاملFemoral diaphyseal endoprosthetic reconstruction after segmental resection of primary bone tumours.
Segmental resection of malignant bone disease in the femoral diaphysis with subsequent limb reconstruction is a major undertaking. This is a retrospective review of 23 patients who had undergone limb salvage by endoprosthetic replacement of the femoral diaphysis for a primary bone tumour between 1989 and 2005. There were 16 males and seven females, with a mean age of 41.3 years (10 to 68). The ...
